Space Shuttle Discovery is currently at the pad while countdown continues at NASA's Kennedy Space Center, the launch of the STS-120 flight is expected for today at 17:38 CEST (15:38 GMT) but currently there are 60-percent chance that the weather conditions at the launch site will delay the launch to Wednesday or Thursday when it is expected that the weather will improve.
The STS-120 flight carries the Italian-built Node 2 module, a pressurized module which will work as a connecting passage between the European Columbus laboratory, the US laboratory Destiny and the Japanese laboratory Kibo.
Part of the seven members crew is ESA astronaut Paolo Nespoli.
The Italian will have a busy 14-days on his Esperia mission...he will play a key role as the intravehicular activity (IVA) astronaut for three of the five scheduled spacewalks, where is included the installation of Node 2. Besides this he will also be conducting a joint ESA/ASI programme of human physiology and biology experiments and several educational activities.
